People building electricity dams on Nyabarongo River between Muhanga and Ngororero district are surprised at the fact that ever since they started building these dams up to today, no single student from the universities or Higher learning Institutions has ever come to do Internship at this place.
The foreigners with majority of Indians who are building this electricity site wonder to why Rwandan students don’t make use of such sites where students from other countries are looking for opportunities to get an internship in this area. They show the same surprise when Rwanda government sends students to other countries to learn on the same kind sites.
This dam when fully constructed will be the biggest in Rwanda and will be providing moiré electricity than any other with 28 megawatts. It is being built by only experts in this kind of work from Rwanda and developed countries.
Eng. Dominique Hitayezu who is in charge of operations of this site and a lecturer in Kigali Institute of Science and Technology says that it is important for universities and higher institutions of learning to send their students to do internship and learn from it.
Hitayezu says this site can teach a lot to students in construction, plumbing, water and electricity courses and can save the government finances to send students to outside countries to learn from the same kind of sites.
According to the Member of Parliament Emmanuel Mudidi, universities and Higher Institutions should take the initiative to bring their students to learn from such a site and even do their internships there.
Prime Minister Dr Damien Habumuremyi said that Rwandans should be involved in what is happening in this site and learn what is done there the reason Energy, water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) is sending 8 engineers to the site.
Though foreign companies are in the construction of this site, the government of Rwanda demands that they employ Rwandan citizens and to bring foreigners only as experts when Rwandans cannot do the same kind of work required.
