Oklahoma University here to improve education

A delegation of officials from the Oklahoma Christian University’ (OCU) is in the country to finalise on the project to establish a boarding secondary school.

The school will be constructed in the Kigali suburban neighbourhood of Kicukiro in an estimated period of two years. The delegation which is led by Dr Mike O’Neal, the president of OCU has met the President Paul Kagame and the Minister of Education Dr. Vincent Biruta.

There are over 60 Rwandan students studying at OCU in the USA and Most are under the Presidential Scholarship Programme which was initiated by President Kagame.

He says that they are in partnership with the Government of Rwanda to have the school running.

The University has also started an MBA Programme offered here in Rwanda and plan in future to have other education programmes.

According to the Minister of Education, said that, Rwanda is looking at all possible avenues of facilitating OCU increase its engagement with Rwanda.

He says that part of the plans is looking at including a partnership between OCU and some local universities to offer long distance learning programs.

The institution which will be named Central African School of Excellence will have the capacity of 2,000 students.
