The Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in partnership with Energy, Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA) officially launched an energy Entrepreneur program in Rwanda through Business Incubation.

According to KIST Rector Dr. Jeanne d’ Arc Mujawamariya the programme aims at promoting Energy Entrepreneurship among young science and technology graduates in the country.

“A programme such as this one is crucial in employment creation, poverty eradication and the growth of local economies,” said Mujawamariya at the launch.

She further said that the programme has been initiated to attract the attention of everyone interested in the development of the Energy Entrepreneurship in Rwanda. She highlighted that it needs everyone’s support as one of the strategies for job creation and Energy Entrepreneurs promotion.

This comes at a time when Rwanda is being faced by a big challenge of energy which is a crucial aspect in the development of the country. Various projects are underway to see that energy is produced on a bigger scale.

These initiatives include, constructing of more hydro dams, producing energy from Methane gas in Lake Kivu and from Coal. This program started with 60 Science and Technology graduates currently incubating at KIST in Phase 1.
