A girl uses an XO laptop on the go in rural Rwanda- Rwanda will host a conference on the use of ICT in education to consolidate what it has achieved so far

The Ministry of education will this week host an international Conference on technology in Kigali.

The three day conference aims to help researchers and other scholars to share ideas, knowledge and skills on how best technology in education can be improved in the country and at the global level.

According to the Minister of Education Dr. Vincent Biruta said that the conference will also be a platform to identify innovative ideas in the technology sector.

On behalf of the Rwanda Education Board (REB) the director of ICT Evode Mukama said that they doing all possible to see that technology is fully integrated in the Rwandan curriculum.

He however, said that this would soon be realized because there is will among the researchers, teachers and students alike on the technology issue.

During the conference also, it was announced that some of the best education technology innovations will be awarded.

The conference is expected to attract academics, scholars, policymakers, teachers, students and ICT expert from within the East African region and beyond.

Rwanda under the One Laptop Per Child Programme has managed to distribute over 110,000 laptops to primary schools countrywide, and are is targeting to distribute more 60,000 before the year ends

The conference organised by Rwanda Education Board (REB) in collaboration with the education ministry will be held under the theme; “enhancing learning through technology.”

The conference is expected to draw 300 delegates and among notable speakers is Prof. Nicholas Negroponte, the founder of OLPC and MIT Lab, Prof. Margaret J. Kamar.
