The member of the political bureau and secretariat, Minister of the Organization department of the Communist Party of China CPC, Hon. Li Yuanchao, along with Chinese delegation are in Rwanda on a 3-day working visit.
Hon. Li Yuanchao together with Rwanda’s Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi on Tuesday inaugurated an E-learning lab worth 500.000 US dollars at Kigali Institute of Science and Technology.
In her welcome speech, the Rector of KIST Dr. Jeanne D’Arc Mujawamariya highly treasured this visit saying that KIST and Rwanda in particular look forward to future institutional partnership and collaboration between KIST and business companies from China starting with HUAWEI, a respected company in the hi-tech world which donated the E-learning software inaugurated.
When Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame visited HUAWEI Shenzhen headquarters in July 2007, the Chairperson of the Company Sun Yafang donated an e-learning system to Rwanda on behalf of HUAWEI Company.
Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi embarked on the mutual bilateral relationship between the two countries that has lasted for over 42 years and said that this e-learning system will enhance modern and technological education to the people of Rwanda.
“This is as an important asset to the Ministry of education. It will supplement government programs of building an ICT based economy and KIST students and Rwandans in general will benefit from this important system to build the future of Rwanda”
Hon Li Yuanchao thanked the government of Rwanda for its continued mutual relationship. He also insisted that KIST as an IT teaching institution is the future of Rwanda.
This project will help students follow classes conducted by one lecturer teaching a number of classes and other people at their families at the same time thus reducing costs, time and sharing learning resources among students at the same time.
Minister Yuanchao Li is accompanied by a delegation of three Vice Ministers and 23 party officials.
While in the country, among other scheduled activities, Minister Yuanchao Li will meet Chinese community in Rwanda, hold discussion with officials of Rwanda patriotic front party, the national unity and reconciliation commission.
Rwanda and china have enjoyed 40-year old warm relations. China has financed various developmental projects in the country, such as road construction projects, health, and education among others.
